Dodger

Here’s to Dodger, our dog and our friend,

We wish you peace, your life at its end.

When just a pup, you could draw our blood red,

Until Scott put a stop to that with a whack to your head.

The boys were your charge and you watched them with care,

To make sure that any accident was only but rare.

And even if it was Dad that just got too rough,

You bit him in the butt to say “that’s enough”.

You roamed the neighborhood throughout,

Everyone knew it was your domain without a doubt.

And when life was miserable and we were blue,

You sat quietly by and saw us through.

We will miss your excited barking as you greeted us home,

It will never be the same wherever we roam.

But our memories are plenty and smiles they are many,

Of the dog we called Dodger and her life as our nanny.
